Big Mama is a Chilean rose tarantula. They are one of the most common tarantula species kept as pets and may live more than 20 years in captivity. This type of spider lives in a burrow, which it may dig itself, and only leaves to find food or mates. One of her defenses is to kick off her urticating hairs, which can cause itchiness and burning on skin.
